 Projects

I have worked on a variety of projects and designed electronics for medical, industrial, smart wearables, and Internet of Things (IoT) applications. Some of the projects I have worked on are described on this page.

Blue Coral Development Board

Nowi - Nordic Semiconductor

Design of the Blue Coral Development Platform. Versatile development tool for solar-powered, cellular-connected IoT sensors.

The Development board has an onboard antenna with RF matching supporting LTE-M and  NB-IoT connectivity and supports both NanoSIM and eSIM. It houses a MikroBUS socket supporting 200+ sensor click boards. Based on Nowi's NH2 chipset and Nordic Semiconductors nRF91 chipset.

In the recording of the Nordic partner webinar below (±50 min), I explain more details about the design of the board to a global audience and answer questions during a live Q&A.

Thingy:91 Energy Harvesting

Nowi - Nordic Semiconductor

Design of the Thingy:91 energy harvesting plug-in accessory board.

The Thingy:91 is a multi-sensor cellular IoT prototyping platform of Nordic Semiconductor that uses LTE-M, NB-IoT, and GPS.

The plug-in board attaches to the Thingy:91 and charges the internal battery using the Nowi's NH2 chipset and a solar panel. It includes an onboard voltage supervisor to protect the battery from overcharging. It also includes a current measurement interface, pin-to-pin compatible with Nordic's PPK2 measurement tool

Energy Autonomous Insole

Nowi

End to end design for Nowi Energy Autonomous Smart wearable Insole. The system incorporates Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity, Flash memory storage, inertial sensors, and its power consumption is partially to fully compensated for by mechanical energy generated on the insole by human walking movement.

In the video below (±7 min) I explain more details about the project.

Patient monitoring tool

Pressure ulcer prevention

Designed PCBs and Electronics for a Class I certified medical device focussed on pressure ulcer prevention, launched in August 2019.

The complete medical product including this and other PCBs was tested for Medical Electromagnetic Compatibility and Radio Emission Directive compliance at EMC test house and notified body DARE in Woerden, the Netherlands.

Sensor Calibration Machine

Medical Vibration Sensors

Designed PCBs and electronics for a vibration sensor calibration machine based on pneumatics. The machine calibrates analog medical sensors in a class I certified medical device.

The design includes the power and control of a solenoid valve and stepper motor, analog front-end for a loadcell-based reference sensor, RS232 communication, and an embedded 32 bit MCU based on ARM Cortex-M4F.

Sensor Calibration Machine

Medical Pressure Sensors

Designed PCBs and electronics for a pressure sensor calibration machine. The machine calibrates analog medical sensors in a class I certified medical device.

The multi-board design includes the power and control of multiple linear actuators,  overcurrent protection, analog front-end for multiple loadcell-based reference sensors, RS232 communication, and an embedded 32 bit MCU based on ARM Cortex-M4F. The calibration machine is certified for the machinery directive.

ICE PowerBar

Inrada

Designed a battery connector for an energy-autonomous building complex project based in Thierrens, Switzerland. The batteries used in the project are of Lead-Crystal chemistry.

The battery connector incorporates integrated passive battery balancing, current sensors for current monitoring, temperature sensors for battery temperature monitoring, and double fused for compliance with industrial safety regulations.

IRIS

Inrada

Designed PCBs and electronics for an industrial computer extension board.

The design includes RS232, RS485, SPI, I²C, and CAN communication busses. A 250 V 10 A AC Power switch. Power over Ethernet (PoE). Is based on an ARM Cortex-A53 computer and supports DIN Rail mount for industrial installation.
